Holy Week 2011

The death of Jesus is for us nothing if we have not died with him;
the resurrection of our Lord is for us nothing if we have not been raised with him. – Emil Brunner

Palm Sunday, April 17

Passion/Palm Sunday is a particularly stirring day in the worship life of GPPC. We will gather in front of the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. for a processional with palm branches and Ghanaian drumming. The service will conclude with the reading of the story of Jesus' death.

We will receive the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering to support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development. Please visit www.pcusa.org/oghs/ for more information about this offering.

I could never myself believe in God, if it were not for the cross.
The only God I believe in is the one Nietzsche ridiculed as “God on the Cross.”
In the real world of pain, how could one worship a God who was immune to it? – John Stott

Maundy Thursday, April 21

This Maundy Thursday we invite you to share Compline (a service of nighttime prayer) and
Communion that will recall Jesus' last meal with his disciples. 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

Good Friday, April 22

Stations of the Cross: Join with Northside churches to pray for justice, peace and healing on W. Brookland Park Boulevard and Moss Side Avenue from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Our Tenebrae service is a service of scripture, prayer, song, and growing darkness in which to
remember Christ's crucifixion. 7:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The congregation of First United
Presbyterian Church will join us for this service.

Easter, April 24

Our celebration of Christ’s resurrection will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. It will include the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. As an expression of our communion with people around the world, we will participate in the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. (Please note that Sunday School classes will not meet on Easter.)

"Christ the Lord is risen today!” Alleluia!
All creation, join to say: Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high; Alleluia!
