Music and the Arts
On Wednesday afternoons during the school year, a little before 4:30, children ages 4 through 5th grade gather in the church Fellowship Hall for a pick-up game of tag. As new children arrive, the game gets larger. After a few minutes, Doug Brown calls the group to make a circle, pray, and share a snack together. After the snack time, the program of the month begins; it might be a dancer teaching the children to dance to the Beatitudes, an artist leading a session on watercolors, or a church member helping the children to build model houses out of stone. (The goal is always to respond to scripture with art.) After the program the children practice a few hymns and songs for an upcoming worship service. On the last Wednesday of the month, family and friends join children in the Sanctuary for a simple Vespers Service.
The goals of Wednesday Afternoons for Children are to strengthen and grow the children’s community at Ginter Park, to share the richness of our worship tradition with the children, to teach them the basic tools of healthy singing, and to have fun. All are welcome at any time throughout the year
