Witness, Advocacy and Service Team – What’s up this month:
ADULT HOME MINISTRY
Perhaps you’ve heard. Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education has recognized the GPPC adult home ministry with the James Goodpasture Award for Ministry with Special Populations, one of the school’s 2009 Congregation Awards. To read an excerpt from a letter of recommendation for this award click here. Please see the ways to get involved, below. If you’re just curious and want to know more, or have ideas to share, please let us know. You needn’t commit to anything.
Ways to get involved:
Friday Night at the Palace - Second Friday of each month spend about 1-2 hours taking snacks and sharing an activity with the residents of the Palace Home for Adults on Chamberlayne Ave. For information or to volunteer contact Nathan Perkins at nhp445@comcast.net.
Neighborhood Sunday School Class – meets every Sunday at 9:30. Come join the class or assist the teachers, Betsy Rice, Ruth Metzel and Jeff Lloyd. Contact Betsy Rice at betsyrice@earthlink.net.
Assist in transportation – to and from Sunday services and other church events. One home on Parkwood Ave in Carytown, especially requires help with transportation. Contact Laura Dail. at calhoundail@aol.com.
Interfaith Advocacy and Support – Concerned Northside Churches is a fellowship of assisted living facilities and congregations, mostly in the North Richmond. Contact Betsy Rice at betsyrice@earthlink.net.
Special Events – GPPC participates in an annual Summer Picnic and a Christmas party. Watch for details on this site.
Simply be a friend. At church functions, please invite one or two of our residents to join your table. You’ll be enriched.
