Sunday Classes for Children and Youth
From September through May, we offer classes for all ages at 9:30AM and worship at 11:00AM. Children and youth classes are by age level, and adult class by topic. Friends and visitors are welcome! All classes are held in the Education building.
Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers
On the ground floor of the education building, paid staff and volunteers care for babies and toddlers using props and play stations that expose young children to Biblical stories in a safe, loving environment. Using the Presbyterian Church (USA) Growing in Grace and Gratitude curriculum, teachers will lead children in fun activities, prayer and song, celebrating the presence f God in our world.
Students in our lower-elementary classes will enjoy lessons from the Dwell curriculum while exploring Christian symbols through art, music, drama and play. Our co-teachers will lead activities that introduce one or more elements of worship in such a way that each 9:30 am class complements and reinforces themes, Bible stories and/or hymns that are a part of that morning’s 11:00 am worship. This class meets in the Drama Room on the second floor of the Education Building.
Our uppr-elementary students and those in grades 6 and 7 will kick off the year reading and discussing the book Who Am I? by the Newbery Award winning author Katherine Paterson. Through coversation, art, games and music, we’ll explore what it means to be a child of God, asking questions such as: where in the world is God? Where do I belong? Who is my neighbor? And what is my purpose? This class meets in the E. T. Thompson Room on the second floor of the education building.
Youth: Grades 8 – 12
This year our youth will focus on faith formation and faith sharing. We’ll discuss Theoacademy’s short videos which explore the great themes of the reformed tradition. We will explore doctrines important to the Presbyterian faith, such as the sacraments, prayer, grace, covenant, stewardship, working to encounter our own beliefs about these topics. With mentors from the congregation, we will listen to the faith stories of those in our community, our cloud of witnesses. Well find ways to express our faith with those we love and with those whom God loves.
This class will meet in the Youth Room on the second floor of the education building.
