Get Involved in Worship
- Ushers – GPPC ushers work in teams of four – each team taking responsibility for one Sunday of the month. Ushers extend the hospitality of Christ, welcoming people to worship, helping them however necessary to get situated in the Sanctuary, and distributing bulletins. Ushers also collect the offering of tithes and gifts we make during worship.
- Greeters – We believe hospitality is one of the fundamental values of Christianity, since Jesus welcomes all people to come to him, particularly those whom the world does not value or embrace. GPPC “greeters” are entirely focused on welcoming people to the church Sunday mornings.
- Lay Readers – Members of the church are invited to help lead worship on Sunday mornings. We believe God speaks in different ways, through many voices – at times through ours! We also believe every person can approach God directly. So it is fitting that the prayers be offered and God’s word be read by members of the church. This participation is a visible reminder that the ministers of GPPC are the members themselves.
- Choir – This community of faith leads worship each Sunday morning. The choir is willing to sing almost anything; its repertoire includes Black Gospel, baroque oratorios, post-modern minimalism, and nearly everything in between. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights. New members are always welcome! Learn more...
- Liturgical Arts Team – What God has created is good, and we employ it in our worship. We praise God (and God lifts our spirits!) through seasonal banners and other art, drama, and dance – the fruits of creation, our bodies, our selves. Members of the Liturgical Arts Team offer guidance, inspiration, and decorative displays for our worship.
- Flowers – We believe that God who created the world and called it good (even beautiful!) appreciates gifts of beauty given with love. In that hope, we adorn our Sanctuary for worship with gifts of flowers, given each Sunday to the glory of God – often also in memory or honor of someone dear to this congregation and its members. If you would like to purchase flowers for our Sunday worship, please contact the church office and request a conversation with our Flower Committee chairperson. If you wish to purchase flowers for a particular day (marking an anniversary, for instance), please call well in advance of your desired date; we plan several months ahead.
